Samsung teases Galaxy S25, XR ‘device’ in 2025, hints at cheaper foldable

Alongside its latest earnings, Samsung has started teasing plans for 2025, including the Galaxy S25 series, the long-awaited XR device, and a cheaper foldable as well.

Samsung reports that its “device experience” division, which includes smartphones, turned a profit of KRW 3.37 trillion in Q3 2024 with an outlook of “limited” growth in Q4. The company plans for a “focus on expanding sales of premium products” which includes “strengthening its AI strategy.”

Also mentioned in the post from Samsung is the first confirmation of the Galaxy S25, which Samsung says will be released “in the first half of next year.” The Galaxy S24 seires launched in January, and it’s largely been expected the same timeline will be true of Galaxy S25.

Based on the advancement of Galaxy AI, MX plans to pursue sales growth and profitability improvement centered on flagships such as the Galaxy S25 series and foldables, while also expanding sales of ecosystem products such as the Galaxy Tab, Book, and wearables.

The Galaxy S25 series, which will be released in the first half of next year, plans to enhance the Galaxy AI experience to drive innovation in everyday life and expand sales by strengthening marketing and experience programs.

Samsung also teases its “XR (eXtended Reality) device” which will be launched “in the future.” the XR device, which is being developed with Google and powered by a Qualcomm chip and Android, was previously said by Samsung to arrive sometime in 2024, but Samsung’s post, which includes the XR device in its 2025 outlook, suggests the device has been delayed to 2025. It was also previously reported that a developer version of the hardware would be made available in October, which hasn’t happened.

We plan to contribute to the expansion of the Samsung Health ecosystem through the Galaxy Ring launched this year and to strengthen the connectivity experience between our products, such as the XR (eXtended Reality) device scheduled to be launched in the future.

This XR “device” is thought to be a pair of smart glasses following comments from Qualcomm.

Beyond that, in a separate call (via @Jukanlosreve), Samsung hints that it may be looking at a cheaper foldable smartphone. Specifically, Samsung says that it is exploring “ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products” and “preparing new form factors.” Previously, Samsung has shot down rumors of cheaper foldable phones, but as sales continue to struggle, the company seems to be changing its tune.
