Xbox Cloud Gaming has made a move that will allow users to stream their own purchased games. The service has a total of 50 titles ready to stream, with promises of more to come in the future.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is a function of the Microsoft Game Pass Ultimate subscription. The monthly service allows users access to what’s called the Game Pass catalog, which is constantly updated list of games users get access to through the subscription. That service also brings access Xbox Cloud gaming, which is its streaming service. Streaming was limited to a few titles within that catalog of games until today.
Microsoft announced that Xbox Cloud Gaming would no longer be limited to certain Game Pass titles. Instead, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can now stream their own purchased games through the app or website.
This news was teased last month, though it was unknown if Microsoft would allow users to stream all of their own games or a select few. Today’s news confirms that only a select few titles will be available to stream as long as the user is subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate – a $19.99/month service – and has presumably purchased the titles through Xbox. So far, Microsoft has confirmed that 50 titles will be available to stream starting today.
Again, that is if you are subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and already own the titles that Microsoft lists in its news posts. The company says that more games will become available to stream in the future but does not specify further.
The capability to stream one’s own games comes as a nice added benefit, but it might be for those who wish to find a streaming service that will stream their own library. GeForce Now, which has a partnership with Xbox, is still the go-to for that sort of service, and it has made some impressive improvements over the past few years.
