One of the useful features of Android Auto is the ability to have incoming messages read aloud, but a bizarre issue around WhatsApp has left messages with an unexpected “oh” added on.
Over the past few days, a noticeable number of Android Auto users have noticed WhatsApp messages being read aloud with a random “oh” added to the end. There are dozens of reports of the phenomenon on a Reddit thread, with all affected users finding that the word “oh” is added to the end of the message despite it not being in the actual message.
The cause of this is unclear for now, though it’s likely an issue with Google Assistant more so than Android Auto itself. What’s especially strange is that it’s only happening with WhatsApp, as users haven’t reported the problem with any other apps.
Some users mention the issue going on for as long as “a few weeks.” However, it doesn’t seem to be a universal issue as we couldn’t replicate the behavior in our testing.
There’s no word on when this might be fixed, unfortunately, but it doesn’t have any functional impact beyond being a bit frustrating.
