Android updates have gotten a lot better over the years, but the frequency still varies from brand to brand. Apparently, Xiaomi will finally be stepping up to a monthly update schedule in 2025 for its Android devices.
While Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy owners are used to getting monthly security updates on their devices, Xiaomi has not offered the same to its users. Rather, Xiaomi updates are released every 90 days, even for the company’s flagship releases. Combined with the promise of just four years of major Android updates, it puts Xiaomi quite a bit behind other players in the Android space.
Apparently, though, that may change in 2025.
Xiaomi VP Alvin T said on Twitter/X (via Mishaal Rahman) that the company would “be able” to provide monthly updates “from 2025.” There’s no firm commitment there, but it’s the first real hint that Xiaomi is willing to deliver more frequent updates to its customers. In a follow-up tweet, Alvin says that he doesn’t “want to over promise,” but it sounds like the wheels are turning behind the scenes as it’s added that the “team will share once ready.”
