Following the wide Utilities rollout yesterday, Google is rolling out the Messages, Phone, and WhatsApp Gemini Extensions. These integrations were announced in late October.
@Messages will “use your phone’s default messaging app to send messages,” while also helping you compose and edit/rewrite them. Available prompts include:
- Send a message to [contact name].
- Text [contact name] [message].
- Ask [contact name] [question].
- Help me write a congratulations message to [contact name] on their 25th anniversary.
- After Gemini’s response: Actually, make it a haiku.
- After Gemini’s response: Send it to [contact name].
The Messages Extension cannot read/summarize messages, add images (or other media), or read/respond to message notifications.
The @Phone Gemini Extension can “make a phone call for you, in a natural and conversational way.”
