Samsung Galaxy devices are getting call recording in the US with One UI 7

Samsung’s big One UI 7 update brings a bunch of big redesigns and some new features too, including the somewhat hidden ability to use call recording in the US.

Call recording has always been a hit-or-miss feature for smartphones sold in the US due to legal reasons, but the feature has become more readily available in recent years in one form or another. In Samsung’s One UI 7 update, Galaxy devices are getting a form of call recording that outputs both an audio file of the call, as well as a transcript generated using AI.

The functionality was spotted by SammyGuru as “Call Transcripts,” a feature which allows users to manually start a recording when a call is ongoing. When the recording starts, the phone will play a message audible to both parties that announces that the call is now being recorded. This must be done manually with each new call.

This is similar to the new “Call Notes” feature that Google introduced on the Pixel 9 series, which similarly records the call and stores the audio file, but is mainly designed to give users a summary of the call which is generated using Gemini Nano. Apple has also introduced a similar feature in iOS 18 on iPhones.

On Samsung devices, this feature supports over 20 languages. The process was also shown off in a video.

For now, this feature is only live in the One UI 7 beta, but it’s likely to launch in the full version when the update starts rolling out next year.
