You have to enable Pixel Recorder Clear voice, Call Screen AI replies in Phone app

In addition to Pixel Screenshots and Studio, Google is rolling out Clear voice in Recorder and the Phone app’s Call Screen AI replies as part of the December 2024 Feature Drop.

Version 4.2.20241001.x of Pixel Recorder adds a “Clear voice” toggle in Settings. This will “Reduce background noise while recording for clearer speech playback.” You must use the internal microphone on the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro. External mics are not supported, while you must use the Mono audio channel (no Stereo).

Clear voice will then be enabled for all future recordings to “Keep human speech and remove background noise.” Upon playback, a toggle lets you disable the background reduction to hear the original audio.

Meanwhile, we’re seeing the “Respond with AI replies” in Pixel Phone app Settings > Call Screen: “Call Assist suggests new Al-powered replies based on the caller’s Call Screen responses.” We’re seeing this as of version 157 (beta) of Phone by Google.

This is powered by Gemini Nano with Multimodality on the Pixel 9 series. However, the ability to see live transcripts of automatically screened conversations is available for Pixel 6+ (US English).
