OnePlus Open 2 leak alleges refined design, early 2025 release

The OnePlus Open stood the test of time and managed to stand out among 2024 foldables despite having launched in 2023, but as we near time for its sequel, we’re all certainly curious to see what’s in store. This week, a new leak claims to reveal the OnePlus Open 2’s design, as well as offering more details on its specs and release date.

We’ve heard a bit regarding the OnePlus Open 2 thus far, with the foldable said to include better water resistance, new cameras, wireless charging, and a ridiculously large battery.

A new leak published to SmartPrix reveals more information, starting with a potential first look at the design of the new foldable. One leaker has expressed doubt in the information due to track records, but everything here seems to line up with what we’ve heard in the past.

The renders below are said to be based on a “late-stage prototype” and show a design that’s mostly a refinement of the existing model, with a smaller camera module and gentle curves on the back. The inner display looks unchanged, and the report claims the device is larger, but thinner than the first generation (in line with past leaks) at under 10mm.

The inner display is apparently an 8-inch panel with a 6.4-inch cover display, matching up with Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Specs reportedly include Snapdragon 8 Elite and up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage. Rear cameras are made up of a trio of 50MP sensors while 32MP and 20MP selfie cameras are available. The battery is said to be 5,900 mAh with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

It’s been rumored for some time that the OnePlus Open 2 (and the Oppo Find X5 it’s based on) would arrive fairly early on in 2025. One dubious leak left doubt in that for some, but this latest leak (and a loose retraction from the other leaker) all but confirms the new foldable will be launching in Q1 of 2025. That means to expect it around March or so – perhaps at MWC with a new OnePlus Watch?

Meanwhile, we’re quickly approaching the January 7 launch of the OnePlus 13 on the global market.
