The OnePlus 13 ships without a charger in the box in global markets

Almost two months after the official Chinese unveil, the OnePlus 13 is now official in western markets. However, one disappointment is that, yes, there is no in-the-box charger with the global OnePlus 13.

Luckily, if you’re in the US, you will get an 80W charger in the box. However, this is not going to be the case for those in Europe, India, and other global regions, as the OnePlus 13 comes without a charger. This makes it the first flagship OnePlus phone to not come with a power brick as part of the package.

That is no doubt to the chagrin of many long-time fans who laud the value-for-money factor that OnePlus has provided for a number of years. To access the SuperVOOC charging speeds advertised, you’ll have to pick up a supported power brick separately.

It is worth noting that the OnePlus 13 starts at $899 in the US, complete with an 80W capable charger in the box. Yes, that makes it an even more frustrating omission, as we pay more in many global regions once exchange rates are factored in. Effectively, you’ll pay more and get less.

There isn’t a specific reason given for this regional variance, but this decision is exacerbated by the fact that a dual port GaN SuperVOOC power adapter is being offered at $49.99 from OnePlus.com. If you don’t already have a compatible charger, accessing the advertised 100W charge speeds for global handsets will cost you extra. If you have the OnePlus 10 or older, your power brick might not hit those advertised speeds.

You don’t get a power brick but a USB-A to C cable in the box

Understandably, no charger coming with the OnePlus 13 might not matter to you; the problem is compounded a little by the in-the-box cable being USB-A to C rather than a higher-speed and higher-spec USB-C to C cable. This could be explained by changes in EU regulations that require all devices to ship with compatible charging solutions. Effectively, OnePlus is passing on the cost to the consumer as all devices move to one common standard despite the EU stating that it “will help consumers save approximately €250 million a year on unnecessary charger purchases.”

While it’s something we have to come to terms with as more and more OEMs have ditched the once ubiquitous in-the-box accessory, overall, it’s not a great look for one of the former value champions on Android.
