Waze volume controls are currently broken on Android Auto

Recent updates to Waze and Android Auto appear to have broken volume controls, as users are widely reporting problems.

With most navigation apps (and some others) on Android Auto, drivers are able to independently adjust the volume of the vocal feedback from navigation directions and the volume of media that’s playing in the background. But, for many, that’s no longer possible with Waze.

The latest updates to Waze, or Android Auto, have left users unable to adjust the two volume settings separately. Instead, only the media volume can be adjusted.

This problem first popped up at the very end of December on Google’s forums and has become more widespread in the time since, with users on Reddit running into the same problem. The issue appears to be tied to a Waze update that rolled out in late December and is not specific to any particular phones or car models.
