High-quality wallpapers sourced from MKBHD were, for a time, available through a proprietary app called “Panels.” The Panels app is now being removed from the Google Play Store and App Store, as Marques Brownlee cites sustainability issues.
Not simply known for premium b-roll and visuals, MKBHD’s YouTube Channel has garnered a following of users over a long period of producing high-end Android and consumer tech content. Part of the visual aspect was in how devices were presented – often with custom wallpapers that made scenes what they were. A number of those were available through the MKBHD channel’s custom Panels app, whether available for free with ads or through a subscription.
According to Marques Brownlee and the Panels team, the app is officially shutting down at the end of the year. The app was reportedly unsustainable over a long period and failed to live up to the team’s vision, even though the app reached the top charts in the Google Play Store and App Store with a large number of downloads.
Those who paid for annual subscriptions will be pleased to know that the team plans to initiate the refund process on December 31, 2025. Annual subscribers will be refunded for the rest of the subscription period after that date, and wallpapers purchased will not be rescinded – they will still be available for download until the shutdown process is finished.
MKBHD’s Panels team also notes that the app’s code will be made available after the shutdown is complete, allowing others to pick up where the Panels app stopped progressing.
