Nvidia Shield TV owners suddenly cannot use YouTube, YouTube TV apps

A strange issue has left YouTube and YouTube TV apps inaccessible on the Nvidia Shield TV, but the issue is being addressed as we speak.

Over the past few hours, a number of Nvidia Shield TV owners have reportedly that, suddenly, their devices cannot access the YouTube or YouTube TV apps. Reports have popped up on Reddit as well as on Nvidia’s forums.

Affected users report that an error message appears saying something along the lines of “YouTube TV is not supported on this device.”

Nvidia staff says that Google has been informed of the issue and that efforts to fix the problem are already underway. There doesn’t seem to be an easy workaround for the problem at this time.

It’s unclear what’s causing the issue, especially so suddenly. Apparently, some users have been told by support representatives that Google has “dropped support” for the Shield, but there’s nothing public to indicate this is the case. On a support page, Google says that all Android TV and Google TV devices are supported.

We’ll update this post as any further information becomes available.
