‘Kami’ is another unhinged game that will break your foldable phone

Falling firmly in the new category of “games that will break your foldable phone” is a new open-source origami simulator called “Kami,” and it works exactly like you think it does.

Just weeks ago, an open-source project called “Foldy Bird” appeared from the shadows. The game uses your foldable phone’s hinge to register input in the same way you would tap to make the little bird avoid deadly obstacles.

Recently, someone on Reddit posted their very own foldable phone game online called “Kami.” This one uses folds to literally fold paper in the game. It can be rather complex, actually. Getting the paper lined up on the line determines where the fold is. With a simple physical fold of your Galaxy Z Fold 7, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, or other device, the paper folds along the line.

The creator makes the entire project available online, for anyone to use or modify as they see fit. To play it, users can head to the game site and play, since much like “Foldy Bird,” Kami is a web-based title.

In reality, these fold-based games are awesome. Unfortunately, they come at the cost of expediting wear on your phone’s hinge. These phones are only meant to take on a certain number of fold cycles per device before the manufacturers like Samsung or Google expect the hinge to wear out. Generally, folding and unfolding happen a handful of times a day. Playing a game like this exponentially increases that.

This is very much a “play at your own risk” game. Still, that doesn’t make it any less cool.
