Gemini app can now access your shared, secondary Google Calendars

Gemini today is rolling out a “major upgrade” to the Google Calendar “tool” that allows you to manage shared and secondary calendars.

Since launch, @Google Calendar in the Gemini app has only been able to access your primary one. It can now “find, create, and manage events” in a shared family calendar, secondary work schedule, personal project calendar, etc. Specific functionality includes:

  • Search Across All Calendars: Gemini now searches your secondary and shared calendars by default when you ask about your schedule.
  • Create Events on Specific Calendars: You can now ask Gemini to add events directly to your secondary calendars.
  • Modify & Delete: Update or remove events on any calendar where you have edit access.

Example Gemini prompts include:

  • “What do I have scheduled on my Family calendar this weekend?”
  • “Add ‘Dentist Appointment’ to my primary calendar for next Tuesday at 10 AM.”
  • “Find my workout schedule for this week.”
  • “Move my ‘Grocery Trip’ on my shared calendar to Friday at 5 PM.”

Limitations like not being able to add/update the location or description of existing events, nor add/invite people to events, remain.
