Amazon adding 1-hour and 3-hour delivery – how to see what’s available for you

After beating its 2-day delivery with same-day, Amazon is now launching 1-hour and 3-hour delivery speeds as an option for Prime members at an additional cost, but it all depends on where you live.

Announced today, Amazon says “over 90,000 products” are now available for 1-hour and 3-hour delivery speeds. Eligible products include “pantry items, cleaning supplies, health and beauty items, and over-the-counter medications, to other popular categories like electronics, toys, clothing and accessories, and home and garden.”

These new speedy delivery times are not exclusive to Prime members and come at an added cost regardless of your subscription:

  • 1-Hour Delivery: $9.99 with Prime, $19.99 without
  • 3-Hour Delivery: $4.99 with Prime, $14.99 without

Those added costs could potentially be lower than those associated with delivery apps like Doordash and Instacart, but it’s clear that Amazon is going after Walmart here, as the retailer offers “Express” and “Get it today” (3 hours or less) delivery for the same costs.

Amazon will show you exactly what products are available with these 1-hour and 3-hour delivery windows at a new storefront page – amazon.com/getitfast.

Products eligible for the speedy shipping will depend on where you live, with the focus for 1-hour deliveries in “major metropolitan areas like Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.” as well as some smaller cities too. Amazon says this is available in “hundreds of cities and towns,” whereas 3-hour deliveries are in “over 2,000 cities and towns.”

If no products are eligible in your area, you’ll see an error message that “3 hour delivery is currently unavailable.”
