Lenovo’s ‘Gamepad G9’ turns the Legion Tab into an Android-powered Steam Deck

The utility of a dedicated Android gaming tablet can be questionable with the existence of handhelds like the Steam Deck, but the new “Gamepad G9” for Lenovo Legion Tab splits the difference perfectly.

Available for the latest generation Legion Tab (Gen 5), the Lenovo Gamepad G9 accessory is a case for the tablet that turns it into a Steam Deck-like gaming handheld. It plugs into a USB-C port on the tablet and gives you dual analog joysticks, a D-Pad, ABXY buttons, shoulder triggers, and even macro buttons on the back too. It’s even designed to pipe the Tab’s speakers through channels for forward-facing output.

This new accessory is available for the Lenovo Legion Y700, which is the China-specific version of the Legion Tab (Gen 5).

Lenovo unveiled the global version of the tablet at MWC and it’s certainly a gaming powerhouse, packing Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 alongside 16GB of RAM, a new 165Hz display, and a huge 9,000 mAh battery.

There’s no word on whether or not the latest Gamepad G9 will be available alongside the global release of the tablet, but a prior generation can be purchased on AliExpress with support for the Legion Tab (Gen 3). The latest update looks to just be a minor iteration over prior versions.

The latest version is for sale now in China for ¥499.
