Google says Pixel Watch step counts and other stats are fixed, but your data won’t be

Following a few days where Pixel Watch owners would run into wonky step counts and other stats, Google says the issue behind the scenes is now fixed in the Fitbit app.

On the Fitbit status dashboard, Google confirms that problems around “overcounted steps and calories” have now been fixed. As users had already been trying, a reboot of the watch can help apply the fix.

Google says:

We’ve fixed the issue where some Pixel Watch users were seeing overcounted steps and calories. Please be aware that previously recorded data will remain unchanged, as this update applies to new activity only. If you’re still experiencing this issue, please restart your Pixel Watch.

What’s notable here is that this applies solely to new data, meaning your already-tracked Fitbit data will remain incorrect in your logs.

That’s not the end of the world, but it does make that data pretty hard to use when it comes to looking at trends in your step counts, cardio load, and other stats. It certainly matters more that this fix prevents more problems going forward, but it’s a little unfortunate that previous data is just left incorrect.

As mentioned, you can reboot your Pixel Watch if your step counts and other stats still seem incorrect.
