Pixel Phone app starts rolling out custom Take a Message greetings

The Pixel’s Take a Message feature that answers calls on your behalf and lets you view live transcripts is now adding custom greetings.

Once available, you’ll be prompted at the top of the Home tab to add “A personal touch on your missed calls” that are handled by Take a Message. You can also access custom greetings in the future by going to Settings > Take a Message.

This takes you to a new “Greetings” page that lets you see the “Standard greeting” — “The person you have called is not available. Please leave a message after the tone” — and record new ones.

The recorder has a nice Material 3 Expressive interface that lets you capture up to a minute-long clip. Once done, hit pause and then “Save” at the bottom corner.

You can have multiple recordings stored in Greetings, with the active one marked by a star. Use the three-dot overflow menu to “Set as default.”

We’re seeing custom Take a Message greetings roll out with version 216 of the Phone by Google beta. It’s not yet in the stable channel.
