Motorola Razr Ultra reportedly gets a bigger battery, but the same chip as last year

Motorola’s new Razr lineup is shaping up in some interesting ways, with the new series starting to leak with updated colors and a familiar design, but the new Razr Ultra apparently won’t even get a chip upgrade.

The folks over at Android Headlines claim that Motorola’s next Razr Ultra, to be called “Razr 70 Ultra” internationally, will be using the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset as the prior generation.

That’s a big deal, not only because it means Motorola’s flagship foldable won’t really be all that different, but because the Razr Ultra is Motorola’s highest-end smartphone. The company didn’t have any other devices with an Elite chip from Qualcomm last year, and has not announced anything with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 either. The Motorola Signature, announced earlier this year, runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, as does the Motorola Razr Fold.

It’s a puzzling decision for such a high-end device, but hopefully it means there’s a price cut in the works. The Razr Ultra’s price was already so high it was tough to recommend, as we noted in our review.

The next Motorola Razr Ultra looks pretty familiar across the rest of the spec sheet too, with the same dimensions as the 2025 model, the same 199g weight, and the same trio of 50MP cameras. The only notable difference is the battery, which is apparently up to 5,000 mAh from the existing 4,700 mAh setup.

Motorola is expected to launch its next Razr series pretty soon.
