Samsung’s next pair of Galaxy Buds surface with apparent open-ear design

Samsung has a new pair of Galaxy Buds in the works, “Galaxy Buds Able,” which appear to have an open-ear design amid rumors of bone conduction.

The folks at SammyGuru uncovered an icon for Galaxy Buds Able in One UI firmware, showing what Samsung’s next pair of Galaxy Buds will look like. The new design isn’t anything like existing models including Galaxy Buds 4.

The clip design here isn’t unheard of, though. It’s rather common on open-ear earbuds, such as those sold by Anker’s Soundcore and Bose. The idea is to clip the earbud onto your ear so the speaker is facing towards your ear without closing it off to the outside world.

This comes as, for some time now, rumors about bone conduction have been swirling.

The idea of Samsung producing a pair of bone conduction headphones popped up in March of last year, with the name “Able” attached at the time. While it’s still very possible Samsung is working on bone conduction, the design here suggests that the company has pivoted to more traditional open-ear tech. It’s also possible two pair of headphones are on the way, but model numbers and software leaks suggest otherwise.

As for the name, “Able,” it’s unclear what Samsung is playing at. “Able to hear” comes to mind, but it’s anyone’s guess right now.
