Continued Galaxy Z Fold 8 leaks are revealing more and more about Samsung’s upcoming foldable series, this time including some pre-order perks, the on-the-shelf release date, and some initial impressions from someone who actually held the device.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, as far as leaks have detailed, consists of two devices. The “Ultra” that matches the design and form factor of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the standard model that has a new form factor featuring a much wider inner display.
As we’ve pointed out, that “Ultra” moniker seems strange to say the least, but some hands-on impressions show that it’s pretty pointless.
Leaker Lanzuk on Naver posted some hands-on impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series hardware, calling the weight of the wider device “unbelievable.” That’s not due to the weight itself, but the “perceived weight” as a result of the updated form factor. They say it “feels like a new beginning,” and that’s after the Fold 7 was already a big step forward in this regard.
Things go downhill from there.
The post questions why the “Ultra” has its name, as the only perceived differences are “the display pixels and crease,” which are both better than the “Wide” device. Samsung is said to be employing thicker ultra-thin glass to make the display sturdier and improve the crease.
In a second post, Lanzuk adds that Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra will hit store shelves on August 7, presumably in Korea. Samsung’s pre-registration period is apparently shortened down to just a few days prior, with the price still unknown.
Pre-order perks, though, have apparently changed. Samsung’s doubled storage perk apparently remains, but it sounds like there will be more conditions to being eligible for it.
Samsung is expected to announce these devices on July 22.
