Pixel Watch 5 teaser pokes fun at Apple, Samsung by having ‘decency to look like a watch’

Following teasers for the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Fold over the past week, Google today finally released a video for the Pixel Watch 5.

The main premise of this promo is that the Pixel Watch 5 is a smartwatch that “tracks your health, sleep and fitness,” but doesn’t look like one. An analog watch face is shown (Abstract).

For me, by far the biggest thing the PW has going for it is it's unique round dome shape/look. It's the most eye-catching thing about it and that alone for me again makes it one of Google's most successful hardware designs and heads and shoulders better looking than any other smartwatch on the market so Google is right to be touting that. Frankly they should be going even further to promote the design, you can bet Apple would be yelling it from the rooftops with their marketing if the Apple Watch had this design.

To the best of my memory, the “still has the decency to look like a watch” line is the first time Google has emphasized the Pixel Watch’s circular design against competitors.

It comes as the Apple Watch remains a rectangle, while the Galaxy Watch has firmly moved to the squircle shape.

Otherwise, this teaser confirms that the Pixel Watch 5 looks exactly like last year’s model, with the charging pins visible today.

The final shot emphasizes how this is the “Google Pixel Watch 5 with Gemini Intelligence.”
