Fairphone officially starts selling its new repairable Android phone in the US for $649

Following the launch of audio products in the US earlier this year, Fairphone is officially bringing its repairable Android phone, the Fairphone Gen 6+, to the States for $649.

Available starting today, Fairphone Gen 6+ is a moderate upgrade on the company’s 2025 release. It has a 6.31-inch LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display just above FHD+, a newer Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset with 12GB of RAM, Android 16 out of the box with OS updates through 2032, 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage – with microSD support –, and a pair of rear cameras with a 50MP wide and 13MP ultrawide. There’s a fingerprint sensor in the power button and a physical switch that puts the phone into a minimalist mode.

Colors include “Cobalt Blue,” “Horizon Black,” and “Green.”

But the core of the story here is, and always has been, repairability.

Fairphone Gen 6+ is designed with repairs and replacement parts in mind. The 4,415 mAh battery is removable without any adhesives, with 12 parts around the device being user-replaceable. That includes the USB-C port, display, and back cover, all of which can be replaced “in under five minutes” using screws.

There are some other neat advantages there too, such as being able to screw in a lanyard, wallet, or finger loop grip backplate.

Fairphone’s repairability focus isn’t without some trade-offs, such as the smaller battery capacity, as well as the IP55 dust/water resistance rating, both of which are lesser than most other modern smartphones. But with most phones still being difficult to get repaired at all, much less so on your own, it’s great to see Fairphone not only expanding its lineup, but bringing it to the United States too.

In the US, Fairphone Gen 6+ is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile and sold unlocked via Fairphone’s website and Amazon for $649.
