Google Home now lets you preview Nest Doorbell ringtones, just in time for the holidays

Smart doorbells usually center their features around their security features — person alerts, motion tracking, the works — but they also go a long way in making your front door a little more fun. Google is no stranger to seasonal doorbell chimes, and ahead of a few months packed with holidays, the company is making a big improvement to how you setup your doorbell ringtones.

As part of today’s Google Home update, you can finally preview the chime you’re assigning to your Nest Doorbell from within the app itself, saving you the hassle of having to stand in front of your own door to hear it for yourself. Home now includes audio previews for both standard chimes and limited-time holiday themes, making it easy to know exactly what spooky sound — or Christmas jingle — your visitors will hear whenever they arrive.

Unfortunately, you’ll still need to wait for those timed offerings to be available throughout the year; only Oktoberfest is currently actively available under Google’s doorbell theme settings. Still, our own Ben Schoon is already seeing the play button active and available within the Home app for both seasonal and classic themes, with a play button available to the left of every option.

You can find this option within the Doorbell theme menu under Doorbell camera settings in the Google Home app. If you’re anxiously awaiting some Halloween tones as October rolls in, however, you’ll need to keep waiting. Meanwhile, the Oktoberfest sound ends its annual run on October 9th.
