The OnePlus 16 is official this week and looks beastly – too bad most of the world won’t be able to buy it.
It was always going to sting when OnePlus launched its next flagship after pulling out of global markets, but it’s especially rough when it’s actually a pretty big improvement over the OnePlus 15.
Announced earlier this week in China, the OnePlus 16 is packing some serious power.
- 6.78-inch 2772×1272 185Hz OLED display
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6
- Up to 16GB RAM
- Up to 1TB storage
- 9,000 mAh battery (100W/80W wired & wireless charging)
- 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, 50MP 3x telephoto, 50MP front-facing
- Android 17 with ColorOS 17
The battery figure alone is staggering, as the OnePlus 15 was already turning heads with its 7,300 mAh power pack. The addition of a 200MP main camera is also notable here, as it addresses one of the main shortcomings with the OnePlus 15’s array. There are some oddities here, such as slower wired charging, but this is certainly ready to do battle with the rest of the spec giants that have been coming out lately.
GSMArena points out that the OnePlus 16’s 185Hz display is limited to 165Hz generally, but opens up the full refresh rate when playing games.
Open sales of OnePlus 16 in China start on October 31 with pricing starting at CNY 5,999 – around $900 USD.
But, with OnePlus having pulled out or scaled back in effectively every other global market, don’t expect this one to make its debut elsewhere.
RIP OnePlus.
