Earlier this fall, LG announced the second generation version of its stylish round Android Wear watch. The LG Watch Urbane 2nd generation was sleeker and more attractive than its predecessor, and also the first Android Wear device to come with an LTE-equipped model. Both AT&T and Verizon will be accepting orders for the LTE model from this week…
Verizon’s pre-orders are live today, with delivery and in-store arrival scheduled for November 19, while AT&T will be taking orders and selling the devices from tomorrow. On AT&T, you’ll be able to snag one for $199 with a qualifying plan. As previously announced, the watch will also work with AT&T’s handy NymberSync feature, as will the Gear S2. With Verizon, the device will be available for $449 with, a 2-year $5 per month wearable plan add-on which attaches the devices to your existing data plan. Or, you can buy it contract free for $499.
“Staying connected is of the utmost importance to consumers today. With the introduction of the second edition Watch Urbane LTE, consumers have options when it comes to their devices and we are excited to bring the latest to the wearables category,” saidMorris Lee, senior vice president and head of North American sales and marketing, LG Mobile Communications Company
As a reminder, the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition features a 1.38-inch 348ppi, 480 x 480 resolution P-OLED round display coated in Gorilla Glass 3. The display sits in a 316L stainless case with a brushed metal finish, measures just 0.56-inches thick and weighs 3.27 ounces. It has three quick-access side buttons as well as silicone based watch bands in various colors and a built-in heart-rate monitor. To keep it going for two days, LG has equipped the 2nd gen Urbane with a 570mAh battery.
It’s equipped with NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and – of course – LTE to provide a wide range of options for connectivity. What’s more, it has 4GB built-in storage, 768MB RAM and powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor.
As an overall package, it certainly seems to offer a lot. But it is a little pricey. If you absolutely have to have an Android Wear watch with built-in cellular connectivity, this is really your only option right now. If not, it might be worth considering the Huawei Watch, which is currently available for prices from $349 or the 2nd gen Moto 360, which starts at $299.
