Rumored Nest products include outdoor camera and thermostat colors, bigger products in 2017

A letter from new Nest CEO Marwan Fawaz yesterday reiterated that the company is following through on its current product roadmap. Tech Insider is now reporting that upcoming products for this year include a rugged Nest Cam meant for outdoor usage and new colors for the Nest Thermostat, with bigger products launching in 2017.

While the current Nest Cam is advertised for outdoor usage, it is not properly designed for it. The new model will be able to withstand the elements and be more rugged. While the currently discounted Nest Cam is essentially a rebranded Dropcam, the new outdoors model is sleek and uses a power cord versus a built-in battery that needs to be recharged every so often.

While 2015 saw the third generation of the Nest Learning Thermostat, this year’s update will be minor and purely aesthetic. New thermostat colors will feature accents along the trim and are likely meant to fit better in different homes and settings. It’s unknown whether the colors can be swapped out like plates or whether they are permanent.

These products won’t necessarily “reset” the narrative on Nest and bigger ones are coming in 2017. According to TechInsider‘s sources, one of the many products will be an “obvious home product”. Along with rugged Nest Cam, a prior Information report mentioned a smart home hub that has been riddled with delays. The ‘obvious’ home product is likely that and hopefully will still be relevant when it launches next year.
