Samsung launches an impressive Snapdragon 820-powered Android flip phone in China

While the rest of the world focuses on standard smartphones, there’s a growing market in China for smart flip phones. A handful of companies have launched devices like this over the past year or two ─ Samsung included. Now Samsung has launched a new high-end option, the W2017, and it actually looks pretty impressive.

The W2017 packs two 4.2-inch Full HD SuperAMOLED displays, one on the outside the other on the inside. The internal also brings a full number pad, D-pad, and Android navigation buttons. The device also has a full metal body.

Under the hood, the phone is powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor and 4GB of RAM, much like the Galaxy S7. There’s also 64GB of storage, a microSD card slot, fast wireless charging, a 2,300 mAh battery, an always-on display, a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for Samsung Pay. There’s also a 12MP rear camera with f/1.9 aperture which is capable of recording in 4K. And there’s a 5MP camera on the front (on the inside). Gold and blue variants are available.

So far it seems like W2017 will only go on sale in China, and with a huge price tag to boot. According to SamMobile, the phone will be priced at 20,000 yuan, about $2,960…
