This latest version of Google’s mobile operating system brings significant enhancements to various aspects of your smartphone experience. From privacy and security to productivity and entertainment, there’s something for everyone in Android 15.

In this post, we’ll explore some of the top features of Android 15. From enhanced security, to better data on your device health, there is a little bit of everything in our shortlist. Be sure to check out our deep dive into all of the user-facing changes in Android 15 too – which isn’t huge but still enhances the Pixel experience.

Private Space: A Second Phone Within Your Phone

One of the most significant new features in Android 15 is Private Space. This feature creates a separate, secure environment within your device, allowing you to install distinct apps, use a different Google account, and set a unique passcode. To activate Private Space, go to Settings > Privacy and Security and toggle the switch. You’ll then be guided through the setup process, where you can create a separate screen lock PIN.

Once set up, you’ll find a new Private Space icon at the bottom of your app drawer. Tap it to enter the private space using your unique PIN. If you prefer to keep Private Space hidden from the app drawer, you can toggle the “Hide Private Space” option in the settings.

Save App Pairs for Effortless Multitasking

A highly requested feature for Android 15, particularly for Pixel Fold users, has been the ability to save app pairs. This new addition allows you to combine two apps into a single icon on your home screen. When you open this icon, the apps will launch in split-screen mode, making multitasking more convenient. On devices like the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, you can even save app pairs to the taskbar for quick access.

Home Controls Screensaver for Pixel Tablet

For users with smart home devices, Android 15 offers a new screensaver option for the Pixel Tablet. When placed on the charging speaker dock or stand, the device will automatically display a screensaver that allows you to view and control your connected devices.

Redesigned Wallpaper Editor

While not introducing new functionality, Android 15’s wallpaper editor receives a significant visual overhaul but remains feature intact. You’ll enjoy a cleaner preview, easier repositioning, and smoother transitions between the lock screen and home screen.

Updated Volume Controls

The volume controls in Android 15 have also been redesigned to look and work better. Gone are the thin sliders; in their place are bold, Material You-themed icons with dynamic labels and animations. Additionally, you can now switch audio outputs directly from the volume panel.

Screenshot Preview

The screenshot preview in Android 15 has also undergone a mini visual overhaul to match the overall user interface. The edges and corners of the preview are now rounded, creating a more cohesive look. Additionally, the crop and edit buttons have been redesigned to be circular, providing a consistent and modern appearance. These changes contribute to a more streamlined and visually appealing experience when taking and editing screenshots.

The categories are now clearer and more organized, making it easier to find the desired widgets. Furthermore, the widget selector offers suggestions based on your downloaded apps, providing personalized recommendations and streamlining the process of finding relevant widgets.

Default Wallet Selection

Android 15 introduces a new feature that allows you to choose a default wallet app for NFC payments and other wallet-related functions. This provides greater flexibility and control over how you manage your digital payments. By selecting a preferred wallet app, you can streamline the payment process and ensure a consistent experience across different payment scenarios.

Adaptive Vibration

Adaptive Vibration is a useful feature in Android 15 that automatically adjusts the vibration intensity based on the surrounding environment. This helps to reduce noise and vibrations when your phone is placed on a table or other surfaces. By intelligently adjusting the vibration strength, Adaptive Vibration enhances the user experience and minimizes disruptions.

Always Show Taskbar

For users of large-screen devices like the Pixel Tablet or Pixel Fold, Android 15 offers the option to always keep the taskbar visible. This provides constant access to recent or chosen applications, making it easier to switch between tasks and navigate your device. The persistent taskbar enhances productivity and efficiency, especially for users who frequently use multiple apps simultaneously.

Bluetooth Auto-Reconnect

A convenient feature in Android 15 is the ability to automatically turn on Bluetooth the next day if you’ve disabled it. This eliminates the need to manually re-enable Bluetooth after temporarily turning it off, saving you time and effort. Bluetooth Auto-Reconnect ensures that your device is ready for wireless connections whenever you need it, providing a seamless user experience.
