If you’ve noticed that HDR formats including Dolby Vision have suddenly stopped working on Disney+, you’re not alone, and it’s actually an intentional change.
As reported by FlatPanelsHD and Heise, a patent dispute in Germany has led to Disney+ intentionally disabling Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 3D (only on Apple Vision Pro) content formats on its platform. The change was noticed by some in late 2025 in Germany, but it’s now affecting more users across larger portions of Europe as well.
A support page has even removed mention of Dolby Vision, including in the US market.
So far, reports of Dolby Vision and HDR10+ disappearing have only come from France, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, and Germany, but the removal on Disney’s support page suggests other regions could be affected in the future as well.
As FlatPanelsHD points out, the patent dispute is against a company known as “InterDigital” which, apparently, has a reputation of being a “patent troll” and has also pursued cases against the likes of Amazon, Samsung, and other companies. German courts are currently holding an injunction that affects HDR on Disney+, but the full impact and outcome remain unclear for the time being.
