Google Wallet gets gradient icon redesign that subtly glows

Google Wallet is the latest first-party app to get a gradient icon, but this redesign is quite subtle in the grand scheme.

The general rectangular design of the wallet is unchanged, but the yellow card is now slightly narrower. A more significant change is the glow appearing on the blue and red sections.

This gradient effect and the card design change are pretty hard to notice on your actual phone, but they are there. It’s even harder to spot than the Google Photos icon update.

Old vs. new

Currently, this gradient icon is live on the Google Wallet homepage in the top-left corner. The homescreen app icon itself has yet to be updated as of version 26.19.

This updated icon comes ahead of the big passes redesign, which is not widely available and has yet to be officially announced. Having search in the app is a nice quality-of-life improvement.

Google Wallet joins the Search ‘G,’ Gemini, Home, Photos, and Maps in receiving this gradient treatment. We spotted the new icon for Google Health last week, while all the Workspace icons are also due for a big revamp.
