Samsung’s foldables aren’t the only devices we expect to get a price increase. Reports say the Galaxy Watch 9 series and Watch Ultra 2 prices will go up by around 10%.
The report comes from WinFuture, stating that Samsung plans to increase the price of the next smartwatch releases – the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. In comparison to the Galaxy Watch 8, the new lineup is expected to increase by anywhere from €30 to €50. That bumps the Galaxy Watch 9 40mm variant to €409.00 in Germany, where the report originated.
Here’s how the rest of Samsung’s smartwatch lineup breaks down in Europe:
- Samsung Galaxy Watch9 40 mm BT – €409.00 (+40 euros)
- Samsung Galaxy Watch9 40 mm LTE – €459.00 (+50 euros)
- Samsung Galaxy Watch9 44 mm BT – €439.00 (+30 euros)
- Samsung Galaxy Watch9 44 mm LTE – €489.00 (+30 euros)
- Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 LTE – €749.00 (+50 euros)
No matter how you look at it, prices are factually increasing across the board. The previous versions of these devices weren’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination, and the increase in price suggests Samsung assumes users are going to be paying the increase to get better features and performance.
For those in the US, the prices can’t be converted directly to determine what the new price might look like. At best, we can expect the watches to go up by around $50 or so. Maybe looking into a Galaxy Watch 9 or Watch Ultra (2025) might be the play until these prices get sorted out.
It isn’t only the watches that are getting a lift up the cost sheet. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to be €2199.00. That €100 increase sounds like a fair cost for the upgrade to an “Ultra” device, until you begin to understand that the new name doesn’t actually bring much of a change. If anything, it’s full of incremental changes expected in a new device without the price increase.
The Galaxy Z Fold, on the other hand, comes in at the same price as the Z Fold 8 at €1999.00.
Foldables aside, the Galaxy Watch series is commonly used across Samsung’s phone form factors. A price increase for the Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 is going to affect everyone, and whether the new pricing structure is justified will be up to Samsung to explain during its July 22 Unpacked event.
