Google Beam 3D meeting booths will expand access for military families

Google announced an expansion of its 3D meeting booths, giving military families access to Google Beam in over 20 locations.

Google Beam, originally Project Starline, has recently expanded in several steps. After becoming available at the corporate level, Google has begun making the 3D video conferencing tech available to users in co-working spaces through its partnership with HP.

Today, Google announced another expansion. Google Beam video booths will be available at 20 USO locations globally. This comes after a pilot program was set up for military members and their families in Poland and Texas.

That’s why we’re partnering with the United Service Organizations (USO) to bring the HP
Dimension with Google Beam video communication solution to 20 USO locations globally,
helping service members bridge this distance. With true-to-life, 3D video communication
technology, families can feel like they are stepping into the same space and connect in an
entirely new way.

The expansion will reach Grafenwöehr, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas, in addition to those two existing locations for the time being.

Google partnered with Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, a filmmaker and veteran, to produce a docuseries that expands on how Google Beam is being used in the military. In total, the series follows four families in For Bliss, Texas, as they get to use the 3D video booths to go beyond traditional video calls.

You can watch the series on Google’s YouTube channel.
