These heat-busting summer gadgets are a must-have to keep cool

Whether you’re a summer person or not, staying cool will be your top priority as it heats up. These unique gadgets are some of our favorite items to have on hand in the summer heat.

A “summer gadget” can be a few different things, and our list covers both definitive tech products and other items that will make you that much more comfortable when the high heat becomes unbearable.

Novilla Vitality Hybrid Mattress

The Novilla Vitality is the best hybrid mattress under $500, and it’s a must for this summer. There are a few reasons we recommend it, but the main draw is how well it pays off during the hottest nights summer has to offer, depending on where you live.

The Vitality mattress is ACA-certified for ergonomic support. Novilla uses SmartS Coil® technology to focus support on certain adaptive body zones rather than a general foundation of unsupportive springs. Where the body curves, the Vitality mattress will give way but won’t lessen support. That means you get this “cradled” feeling rather than sinking into your bed.

It also means back, and stomach sleepers get rest with a level spine, which can’t be said about a lot of beds. The medium-firm feels like a perfect balance between bounce and support, which works perfectly to maintain spinal alignment throughout the night. Hybrid mattresses are a great middle-ground between spring support and foam. Both types have significant drawbacks, but the combination Novilla uses offers a supportive in-between.

It makes for a comfortable, ache-free morning because you didn’t sink into the mattress the night before. You’ll also never feel stuck in your mattress, because the edges are designed with additional firm support to ensure you can get in and out, even when you’re exhausted.

That’s generally where most mattresses stop addressing comfort. A supportive bed is good and all, but what about the other factors that play into comfort?

Novilla goes a step further and equips the Vitality hybrid mattress with NanoGEL™ cooling technology underneath the cozy quilted layer. NanoGEL™ particles infused into the memory foam layer absorb body heat throughout the night, which is great when the day’s low temperature isn’t much better than the high.

All of that heat pulled from your body is then pulled out via the open structure of Novilla’s pocketed coils underneath another layer of adaptive comfort foam. It’s one thing to stuff NanoGEL™ into a mattress, but it’s another to design the bed around what happens after that heat gets absorbed.

The internal components, like the company’s SmartS Coil® system, are designed to handle double the pressure of standard beds, so they fit any body type just right. Novilla’s certified safe materials and fiberglass-free design is meant to last, and it might just mean you get better sleep during the hottest months of the year.

During the “moving season” sale, Novilla is offering up to 50% on their products. The Vitality Hybrid mattress comes in Full, Queen, and King sizes at 20% off right now.

Anker Solix EverFrost 2 40L

Anker’s solution to keeping drinks and food cool during the day differs from the traditional insulated ice chest. In fact, Anker says you don’t even need to keep ice on hand.

The Anker Solix EverFrost 2 40L electric cool runs on up to two 288Wh batteries that keep items as cold as -4 degrees Fahrenheit. Anker says just one battery lasts up to 52 hours, and it only takes around 15 minutes to bring the temp down to 32 degrees – plenty cold enough for keeping beer and drinks cool at the beach or on a camping trip.

The cooler doesn’t stop delivering there; it has a retractable handle, 6-inch wheels, and a ton of accessories to cater to your adventures.

Dreo TurboPoly Fan 715S

Fans are great, but they’re almost all exactly the same unless you buy a Dyson model, at which point you’re spending a few hundred dollars for the R&D.

The TurboPoly Fan 715S from Dreo is as unique as they come because it doesn’t just oscillate side to side, but up and down by 85 degrees. Blade design is something Dreo calls a “dual-spiral,” which effectively means there are two blade turbines that move air at different frequencies.

Combined, the fan head turns and rotates to blow a jet stream of air at 21 feet per second all around the room it’s in to circulate air as efficiently as possible. The dual-spiral build pushes a gentle, but strong flow of air.

The blade system is fully serviceable, and a companion app allows for full control and a sleep mode as quiet as 24 decibels. You can set schedules, change oscillation patterns, and see your room temperature all from the app.

All of that comes in a package that takes up as much space as a tower fan, but performs way better with more features.

Peak Design Outdoor Sling

What is a summer outing without the right gear? The Peak Design Outdoor Sling takes the correct approach and packs a ton of features into a minimalist package, courtesy of the company’s time-tested design language.

The Outdoor Sling is a modular camera/tech bag that comes in several sizes. The 2L option is small enough for those who want to bring very little, and the 4L and 7L options cater to those who want to bring a mirrorless camera with them, provided they don’t expect to bring a telephoto lens.

The bag also operates perfectly as a minimal tech bag. It has a similar pocket design to the Tech Pouch Peak Design makes, but with several more pockets and a hidden slot for your phone in the back.

The strap comes off easily, and the bag can be strapped to the outside of another bag if needed. The bottom straps also cinch to keep the bag as small as possible when you want to carry very little. When you need to stuff it, those stretchy cords extend to give you the full internal volume you need, plus add an additional way to carry an outer layer.

Peak Design built the bag with an outer material more versatile for outdoor use, rather than a thicker padded fabric for everyday carry. That offers the benefit of water resistance, light construction, and breathability. Unlike a backpack, the Peak Design Outdoor Sling won’t restrict airflow around your back on hot days. It stays comfortable all the time.

Torras Coolify ‘Cyber Fold’ neck fan

As neck fans go, this one is certainly a sight to behold. We saved this gadget for last because, well, it’s a unique summer gadget.

Torras claims the Coolify Cyber Fold neck fan brings the most powerful cooling performance on the market, bringing air temperature down by around 18 degrees Fahrenheit. But it doesn’t just blow cold air; it cools itself down to bring body temperature down using three cooling zones.

Each zone has an articulating section that bends and adjusts to your preference. You can effectively ensure that cold air is blowing right at you, instead of around you. Several modes are available, including cooling, heating, and an AI automatic mode using the temperature sensing chips built in.

The Coolify fan has a 6,000mAh battery that lasts up to 15.5 hours of use, presumably on the lowest setting. At max power, it seems you can expect 2 hours of runtime. That’s still respectable, especially if you’re getting a reduction of 18 degrees in temperature from it.

It’s certainly one of the more pricey items on our list, and we included a mattress!
