appetas google

Google’s buying spree continues today, and the latest startup to be snapped up is Appetas. Appetas specialized in providing websites for restaurants. In a blog post (via TechCrunch) published on Appetas’ site, the company states that it will be shutting down its service as the acquisition moves forward.

This purchase comes as Google continues to grow its influence in searching for local businesses. Services like Yelp have become popular by relying on user reviews and intelligent recommendations to suggest and sort through local restaurants and shops.

Google is trying a similar approach, and Appetas is likely a piece of this strategy. Additionally, merchant websites have typically been dominated by horrible Flash websites, as small companies tend to not have the resources to create a well-designed website.

Appetas is promising that it will be reaching out to current customers to help them transition away from the service over the next few weeks.
