Android Wear battle: LG G Watch vs Samsung Gear Live (Video)

Sequence 01.Still006

Recently at Google I/O 2014, LG and Samsung launched their new Android Wear smartwatches. The LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live are available now on the Google Play Store, but which one should you buy? Both devices have differences and similarities and today we’re taking a quick look at all of them. Check out our comparison video below for a closer look…

First up, we have LG’s G Watch. This smartwatch takes on a squared design much like Pebble and comes with a rubber wrist strap. The body is constructed of plastic and metal, but has a solid build. On the back of the watch, you’ll find a row of pins for charging that work with a magnetic charging dock (which I prefer over the Gear Live’s implementation). On the front side, there’s a 1.65-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 280 x 280 (240 PPI). Internally the G Watch is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, a 400mAh battery, and 4GB of storage.

Next up, we have the Samsung Gear Live. The specifications for this device aren’t very different from the G Watch, but here’s a quick look. The Gear Live has a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 320 x 320 (278 PPI), 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, and a 300mAh battery. Along the back you’ll find a heart rate sensor and charging pins that snap into the included dock, which are both very similar to the Samsung Gear 2.

As far as software goes, these devices are identical. The only differences come with the design, but that’s not such a bad thing. The good news is, Android Wear is an equal playing field. The advancements and features will mostly come from developers and app enhancements that take advantage of what each device and Android Wear as a whole.

Either way, Android Wear is definitely going to be an exciting addition to the “smart” world and we’re anxious to see what the future holds. Of course, the Moto 360 will launch later in the summer, but for now these are both solid options.
