YotaPhone 2 adds white color option to AMOLED + E-ink display hardware, Lollipop update rolling out

The intriguing and unique YotaPhone 2 may not be quite ready for the United States just yet, but there will be a new color option and a significant software update for the half AMOLED, half electronic paper display smartphone when it arrives…

YotaPhone 2 sports a completely functional 4.7-inch E-ink display with always-on capabilities on its back, and now the smartphone will be offered in a more paper-like color option with white hardware joining the all-black version in the lineup.

The new white version also features brushed metal on its side and bottom where the power and volume buttons and charger/speakers live; the front facing AMOLED side still features a black frame around the 5-inch screen.

Current YotaPhone 2 owners will enjoy the rollout of Android 5.0 Lollipop over the next week or so, too, up from Android 4.4 KitKat. The E-ink display also gains a toggle between inverted white/black modes to match the new color options while the user can toggle between either regardless of hardware design.

As for the planned North American debut of the unique YotaPhone 2, the company says its Indiegogo campaign to help bring it to the US will kick off on May 19th with early bird pricing for the first backers ahead of its summer release.
