Galaxy S7 Active breaks cover in real-life images, complete with AT&T Logo, camo-print back

Rumors of the upcoming durable version of Samsung’s latest flagships have gone quiet more recently. Until today, that is. Real-life images have been published this morning showing the unreleased Galaxy S7 Active in all of its ‘glory’. To break it down to its most basic description, it looks like a regular Galaxy S7 with a bulky 8-bit camo-patterned case attached.

The images come from SamsungVN, and corroborate previous speculation that Samsung will, once again, be teaming up with AT&T in the US to offer the more durable version of its line-leading smartphone.

As well as sporting an AT&T branded camo rear panel, the phone seems far bulkier than the regular S7. Two physical, clickable buttons replace the capacitive ones on the front, while the fingerprint sensor-equipped home button looks unchanged. The two individual volume up/down buttons have been replaced by a rocker switch on the left edge, while the SIM/SD card tray has been moved to the right edge, below the power switch.

Like the S6 Active, it also appears to have the ‘Active key’ above the volume rocker. This will more than likely be used to launch the bespoke Active Zone app with a short press, and be customizable so that a long press will launch an app of your choice.

As well as the redesigned buttons and alternative placement, the phone is surrounded by a thick rubber bumper and encased in polycarbonate rather than the more elegant metal and glass build of the S7 and S7 Edge.

Apart from that, we assume the S7 Active will boast a collection of certifications to prove how capable it is of withstanding wind, rain, sandstorms and all other kinds of torture particularly active people like to subject their devices too. We also expect it will be available in more than just the green/khaki camo design.

Other details are unclear. It’s expected that the S7 Active will come with 4GB RAM and a Snapdragon 820 processor. Sadly, because it’s an AT&T exclusive, it will also come loaded with a ton of bloatware to weight down the normally-capable flagship chip.
