HTC announces that HTC 10, HTC One A9, HTC One M9 will get Android Nougat

As the release date for Android Nougat approaches (man, it’s going to take a while to get used to not calling it Android N), it’s now on the shoulders of Google’s OEM partners to bring the update to all of our favorite devices. Now, Taiwanese company HTC has announced that Android Nougat is coming to three of its most recent devices, the HTC 10, HTC One A9, and the HTC One M9…

HTC has not traditionally been one of the fastest OEMs to update its phones (no OEMs are really, as has been talked about a lot recently), but the company’s reportedly closer ties with Google this year — which includes manufacturing two Nexus devices — might be changing that.

If your HTC phone isn’t one of these three, that doesn’t necessarily mean that your device won’t be getting Android Nougat. HTC notes that “timing and additional devices to receive the update will be announced later this year when Google ships Android N to manufacturers.” So if you’re still rocking an HTC One M8, don’t lose hope yet (although I wouldn’t necessarily say your chances are great, either).

Google pushed the first builds of Android N out earlier in the year than it did with Lollipop and Marshmallow (Nougat has been in Developer Preview since March).
