Images of Samsung’s glossy ‘jet black’ Galaxy S7 leak, but can you tell the difference? [Gallery]

Since the demise of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has been releasing new color variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to generate new interest in those devices. Early this week, a report claimed that Samsung would be releasing a new “glossy black” Galaxy S7 variant, and now we’re seeing a handful of images of that device leak.

Images posted to Weibo (via SamMobile) show off a new black version of the S7 which is slightly tweaked from the previous black option. Now the back panel appears to use a slightly deeper black than the standard “Black Oynx” variant of the S7. It’s unclear exactly what Samsung’s change is on this variant to get the new color, but to me, it looks like there’s an extra layer of paint on the outside of the glass rather than under it, but that isn’t confirmed.

The metal frame around the device also gets a black design, similar to the black Galaxy Note 7 and the Injustice Edition Galaxy S7. That’s opposed to the silver trim found on the standard Black Onyx Galaxy S7, and certainly a welcome change if you ask me.

The new style looks a lot like Apple’s jet black iPhone 7, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. We can only hope that Samsung’s implementation of this color will be less prone to scratching, but that remains to be seen. It’s unclear when Samsung plans to release this variant, or where it plans to do so.
