Leaked specs of Sony Xperia Z Ultra’s smaller brother, the Xperia i1

The trend for ‘mini’ versions of flagship handsets appears set to continue as leaked specs emerge for a 5-inch Sony Xperia i1, expected to follow the launch of the 6.4-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra, according to Taiwanese site ePrice (via Engadget).

Like the Z Ultra, the i1 – codenamed ‘Honami’ – is said to be powered by a meaty 2.2Gh Snapdragon 800 processor and to have a full HD display …

If the specs are correct, the i1 majors on the camera, with a 20MP CMOS sensor and what Sony describes as a G-Lens – potentially an optical zoom, following the lead of the Samsung S4 Zoom. As always, it’s worth noting that megapixels are only part of the story with a camera sensor – quality as well as quantity of pixels matters – but the stacked-CMOS sensor should be a decent one.

We don’t know whether i1 will be the actual product name – it seems an odd one – but guess it’s less of a mouthful than Xperia Ultra Z Mini …

The handset is likely to launch at the IFA in September. Full specs below:
