Google Play event scheduled for Oct. 24 likely won’t include hardware announcements

Earlier today several reports popped up after Google started sending out invitations to a Google Play event scheduled for October 24 in New York City. Geek.com first posted the invitation, which not surprisingly lead to speculation of hardware announcements for the much rumored Nexus 5. While the event will include “music, movies, games and a special performance by Capital Cities”, several new reports are claiming that the event will not be to announce new hardware. Geek posted an update following its original report, as did AndroidPolice, both claiming that reliable sources say the event won’t feature product announcements. So Oct. 24th might not be the day, but with listings for the device prematurely appearing on Google Play, it won’t be long before Google makes things official.
