Samsung S5 “Prime” & “Standard” models on the way, Sprint getting lower-spec’d one?

Samsung looks set to launch at least two different versions of the Galaxy S5, its replacement for the current range-topping S4, code-named Prime and Standard – and it appears possible that Sprint will be getting the lower-spec version.

The two versions first showed up in benchmarks by AnTuTu, showing a Prime model labelled US Cellular and a lower-spec Standard model labelled Europe …

The Prime model is said to have a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB RAM and a high-resolution 2K screen (2560×1440). The Standard model shows a lower-powered Exynos octa-core processor, 2GB RAM and a standard HD display (1920×1080).

But a user-agent profile for a Sprint model discovered by SammyToday may indicate the carrier will be taking delivery of the lower-spec model:

We should stress that UA profiles are a far from reliable guide, as they can misreport specs. It’s also entirely possible that a prototype of the lower-spec model was available sooner and thus used for testing on Sprint.

Samsung is expected to officially announce the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 24th February, though the company had previously suggested that it would be launched “by April,” suggesting that actual availability may lag some way behind.

We’ve been told to expect a significantly different design, with rumors of an iris-scanner to play on-upmanship with the Touch ID fingerprint scanner in Apple’s iPhone 5s.
