According to a report from Bloomberg, HTC has recently hired Paul Golden. If you haven’t heard of Golden, you’re probably familiar with Samsung’s Galaxy brand that he helped create during his role as Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung.
Bloomberg mentions that “two people familiar with the matter” say that Golden was recently hired as a contractor for HTC. Golden is working as an adviser and reporting to HTC’s chairman Cher Wang. At the moment, there aren’t any long-term employment plans for Golden, but his three-month contractor position could definitely become beneficial for HTC.
Paul Golden was employed by Samsung from 2008 to 2012, and as mentioned above, his LinkedIn profile lists that he “created and launched the highly successful Galaxy brand for Samsung.” HTC definitely needs a marketing genius on the front line to help them communicate with consumers. Even with the launch of the HTC One (M8), sales are still down and the company is losing traction.
As mentioned by Bloomberg:
HTC’s hiring of Golden comes amid three straight quarters of operating losses and continued declines in sales and market share. The Taoyuan, Taiwan-based company last month unveiled its One M8 handset and hired actor Gary Oldman to feature in TV commercials to promote the product, with Wang pledging to improve sales through better marketing.
“We just have to communicate well with our customers,” Wang said in an interview at HTC’s Taipei headquarters on April 8. “I believe if we can communicate better, we will do better.”
Let’s hope that Golden can help HTC learn to communicate better. There’s no doubt that HTC has the ability to compete, but they haven’t been doing a great job lately. Paul Golden could be just what HTC needs to turn things around before it’s too late.
