Motorola will let you try a custom Moto X for two weeks for only a penny (update)

Motorola Mobility really wants you to try its Moto X smartphone and next week you’ll have a chance for an insanely low premium. On Monday, June 9th, for just one penny, Motorola will build you a custom off-contract Moto X and send it to you for a two week trial run. While most retailers and wireless carriers have similar return policies, they typically require a full upfront purchase. The offer is valid for one day only and Motorola warns that quantities will be limited.

Like most promotional offers, we’re pretty sure there’s some type of fine print here, so we’ve reached out to Motorola Mobility to for a more detailed overview of how this deal works. If the company elects to share anything, we’ll be sure to update things here to keep you guys in the know.

Update: Motorola has provided us with some additional details about this promotion, including a new 64GB variant of the Moto X for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Republic Wireless. Here’s how the offer works:

·         Consumers go to motorola.com starting Sunday, June 8, at 11:00 p.m. to sign up and receive a special code.

·         Then it’s over to Moto Maker, our online studio, to design a custom, no-contract device. A penny charge will be placed on their credit card while they try out the device for the next two weeks.

·         After 14 days, if the consumer likes their phone, their credit card will be charged.  If not, Motorola will pay to ship the Moto X back. Those who keep the phone get a promo code for 30% off accessories as a welcome to the Moto X family.

Not a bad deal at all.
