Rumors have been swirling for the last few weeks that LG was prepping to unveil the second generation G Watch at IFA, but most accepted that this was preposterous given how we’re only a couple of months into the first version’s existence. But it appears that while LG probably doesn’t have a second generation square watch ready to be unveiled next week, they do have a round watch to show us that will conveniently steal much of the Moto 360’s spotlight.
The device is going to be called the “LG G Watch R” according to Engadget and based on an interesting “R” logo that we can see at the beginning of the below teaser video. There’s not much to glean from the video besides the fact that it’s going to be a round smartwatch, but we do get a glimpse at a few new watch faces, and some mini applications like a step counter and a compass. That said, the video definitely makes clear that IFA 2014 is when we should expect to hear more.
New smartwatches are likely going to flood the market throughout the rest of this year, and it looks like IFA will be the beginning of that flood. ASUS is expected to show off a “budget friendly” Android Wear device next week, which will apparently look better than many of its competitors while still offering a low price tag. Furthermore, we know that HTC is going to be introducing an Android Wear device at some point, and let’s not forget that Apple is very widely rumored to be introducing something soon too (albeit not running Android Wear, obviously).
Be sure to check out the below gallery for a look at some of the LG G Watch R’s watch faces and find the full teaser below.
