A lot of people are buying Chromebooks, according to a recent report from ABI Research. Shipments for Google’s low-cost laptop alternative increased by 67 percent during the third quarter of 2014 when compared to the previous quarter. But the last three months weren’t the only boost for Chrome OS, as the research firm expects this year’s Chromebook shipments to double last year’s numbers.
While units shipped aren’t the same as units sold, Google recently announced that Chromebooks are now the highest selling EDU device in the US. In addition to higher shipment numbers, Acer is currently the top Chromebook vendor, according to ABI, with the Taiwanese firm, Samsung and HP accounting for 74 percent of the platform’s shipments during the first half of 2014.
While Chromebooks are still struggling to find their place with consumers, Google’s affordable notebooks appear to be coming up big in the commercial sector.
