Google launches official YouTube app for PlayStation 4 w/ 1080p viewing and gameplay sharing

Google has finally made a PlayStation 4 version of its YouTube app available for download. The app can be downloaded for free via the PlayStation Store and enables features that most YouTubers/gamers have been waiting for…

The new app will allow gamers to share gameplay directly to YouTube by utilizing the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller. Prior to upload, you’ll be able to trim and preview the clip. The interface also allows for editing of the title, description, tags, and privacy settings.

With the PS4 YouTube app, you can also view videos in up to 1080p quality with 5.1 channel audio. The app will also output 1080p video for upload. It’s said to be “faster and smoother” thanks to the latest design for YouTube on TV.

The “What’s New” section on PlayStation 4 and its mobile app will also feature videos uploaded by your PlayStation Network friends.

YouTube details the app in a recent blog post:

… starting today you can share gameplay directly to YouTube on PlayStation 4 like a bawss, and watch all the YouTube you love with a new app starting to roll out today in the PlayStation Store. Just hit the Share button on the DualShock 4 controller to turn your power move into your next great video on YouTube.

You can also find and watch videos uploaded to YouTube by your PlayStation Network friends in the “What’s New” section of the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation mobile app.
