Google has announced that it’s opening up sales of Chromebooks to consumers in Japan after previously selling the devices only through enterprise channels.
That means that consumers in the country can now purchase Chromebooks through Google’s website as well as through electronics retailers and other online stores later this week on November 13th. Currently Google is only offering the Dell Chromebook 11 and Acer C720 Chromebook. Google links users to Acer’s website for purchasing the Acer C720 Chromebook and Dell, Amazon, and a couple Japanese retailers for the Dell Chromebook 11.
Chrome OS devices from LG, Samsung, Asus, Toshiba and HP that are available in the US and elsewhere are not as of yet for sale in Japan. Google plans to offer additional Chrome OS devices in the country, however, including the ASUS Chromebox and ASUS Chromebook C300MA scheduled for release in mid-December.
