Cyanogen introduces upcoming Themes app for custom fonts, animations and more

Cyanogen on Monday introduced its upcoming Themes app that will serve as a one-stop storefront for Cyanogen OS smartphone users to download themes that customize everything from fonts and animations to wallpapers and icons. The company also launched the initial beta release of Themes Studio for designers to publish and distribute themes.

To celebrate the release of Themes Studio, Cyanogen has launched a Themes Design Challenge that encourages designers to submit themes to the storefront today through December 14th at 5:00 PM Pacific for a chance to win a smartphone and Cyanogen swag pack. The first ten designers to submit a theme will also receive a free Cyanogen t-shirt.

The upcoming Themes app will come preloaded on select handsets that launch preinstalled with Cyanogen OS. The company’s official products currently include the OnePlus One and OPPO N1 CyanogenMod Edition. Only free themes will be available upon the app’s initial release, although paid themes will be added for purchase in the future.

“The Themes app will have new features that make it easier for users to discover, select and install individual theme components for deep customization,” writes Cyanogen. “The first release of the Themes app will come pre-loaded on the device from the new online brand ‘YU’ owned by YU Televentures, a wholly owned subsidiary of Micromax.”
